The lady is a magnificent blessing to us all. She is living with stage four breast cancer, taking heart from the support of family and friends too numerous to count.

IN MEMORIAM

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

The wake for Scott is this evening at Doyle B. Schaefer Funeral Home in Little Neck. We are so sorry we cannot join the rest of our family to be there together and to console Joe. Daniel is taking it on himself to make the trip to NY to represent us at the funeral tomorrow. Marita and I are so very proud of him.

Our oncologist spoke with us last night about some concerns we had raised with him. The conversation did not give us much encouragement going forward. It is more clear that we must treasure every day we have. Marita's eyesight has become shaky and blurry and her hearing loss is profound.

Sleep continues to take a consistent pattern. We are getting our rest. The pain med is taking her through the night. Now we need to get the day under control. The hospice nurse Sherry will be here today to address that further.

Breakfast was a bagel with ham, swiss cheese, a boiled egg, and some peaches in syrup.

Vanessa and Claudia came for a long visit through the middle off the day. The hospice health aide came to bathe and dress Marita. This gave me a chance to fill some prescriptions.

Thelma and Louise checked in for a few minutes of walk time. Marita is very concerned about losing strength. The walking is her primary physical activity. It is very difficult for her.

Sherry came to continue managing Marita's medication needs.

Marita and I took a brief afternoon nap, taking advantage of the gloomy weather to dial it down for an hour.

Prudy, Gerry and Maryann brought dinner. We had soup with corn bread, mashed potatoes (a favorite of Marita's) and a lemon meringue pie. Gerry brought me the cameras I left at the beach. Now I can put photos of the willing in future posts.

Hi Rink and Marita,
How about I bring over some homemade chicken, rice and veggie soup Friday for your dinner? You can always freeze if for later.

Thinking of you both--a lot.

Rink,
I spoke to Tracy M last night. She and I would like to come over for dinner next Wednesday, October 8th. Needless to say, we'll bring the food.
Let me know if that date is OK.

Hi Rink and Marita,

I am following along and sending love. I was planning to make another stew or casserole this weekend, but I don't want to overload you if your fridge is already stuffed.

I'll call in to touch base and make a plan for my next visit.

Holding you both close,
xxRima

Hi Rink and Marita--
Am finally getting the hang of the blog. What took me so long? Lori and I hope to get on your calendar for Saturday and maybe I can tag along with Clark next week as well. Thinking of you all. Love to you. Eileen, as in Milner

Hi Rink and Marita,

If it's ok for Eileen and me to come over Saturday afternoon, I'm wondering if there's some carryout I could bring you to go along with the soup Eileen plans on making. Anything you have a hankering for?

Thinking of you......lori

ps: this is my first blogging effort so I hope I record (or whatever you call it)

Hi Rink and Marita,

I tried to look at the calendar on this blog page, but nothing comes up. I don't know maybe I just don't know how to do it. Jerry and I want to come down Oct. 17 & 18. We will stay at a hotel. I saw the holiday Inn in College Park. Is that an ok place to stay?
Well let me know if that's ok. I love you both.
